Val has bolted from her neglectful mother and her mother’s creepy
boyfriend. Out of gas and penniless, she takes a job as a maid in a
dingy roadside motel. Val soon realizes she’s gotten in over her head
when she catches the attention of a violent pimp who runs a sex
trafficking operation at the motel. When the ghost of a murdered
Guatemalan girl reaches out to her for help, Val must decide whether to
investigate the murder or get out alive while she still can.

Characters:
Val – 16-21 yrs. Tough, a survivor, but still vulnerable. She’s
intelligent and moral, but reaching her breaking point. Must speak some
Spanish and fluent English.
Carlos – 25-40 yrs. Charming as a talk show host, brutal as a viper.
Very rough, but charming. Carlos can seduce anyone and loves the power
it gives him. Carlos has seduced these girls from their families by
charming them and then promising them well-paying jobs in America.
He’s told them stories about his big house and how maybe they’ll get
married some day; anything to get them to come with him. Once he has
them, he smuggles them across the border and then forces those still
living into sex slavery in a small motel along the side of a highway.
He has set up this sex ring with the help of a local dirty cop, Dean.
Must speak some Spanish and English.
Jake – 45-55 The manager of the motel who gives Val a job as a maid.
He can’t see past his next paycheck and turns a blind eye to Carlos
and what he’s doing to the girls.
Dean – 45-55 – Dirty cop, likes to sample the merchandise, the younger the better. He also takes an enjoyment in murder.
Lucia – 14-18 – Brave, powerful. A force of nature. She literally
comes back from the grave to make sure justice is done. (Must look
Guatemalan or Mexican/Central American)
Flora – 13-17 – Vulnerable, soulful, but strong. Must speak some Spanish, English
Clerk in Convenience Store – Male, cold, sneering. Any age, any race.
Val’s mother – Rough, been around the block, likes to party and get high.
Mother’s boyfriend - Rough, been around the block, likes to party and get high.

DIRECTIONS TO UNCSA CAMPUS
The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is located at 1533
S. Main St., Winston-Salem, about a mile south of Old Salem, a national
tourist attraction. The School is accessible by Interstate 40 (which
connects to Interstates 77, 85 and 95 in North Carolina) and U.S. 52,
and is 20 minutes away from Piedmont Triad International Airport in
Greensboro.
PARKING: Please park in the visitor’s lot (turn left at the first
street once you enter the main entrance to campus) or any parking marked
“visitor.â€
From the East
Traveling I-40 West through Greensboro, take the I-40 West bypass (not
Business 40) for Winston-Salem and Statesville (a left merge). In
Winston-Salem, take the Main Street (193 C) exit and proceed to the stop
light. Take a right onto Silas Creek Parkway, then take a left at the
intersection with Main Street. Follow Main Street for about a mile and
turn right into campus. This is the School’s main entrance.
From the West
Traveling I-40 East to Winston-Salem, take I-40 East bypass (not
Business 40) for Greensboro (a right merge). Continue on I-40 for
approximately 4.5 miles and take the Peters Creek Parkway (192) exit.
Take a left onto Peters Creek Parkway, and take a right at the next
intersection, with Silas Creek Parkway. Proceed until you reach Main
Street. Take a left onto Main Street. Follow Main Street for about a
mile and turn right into campus. This is the School’s main entrance.
From the South
Traveling north on U.S. 52, take the Sprague Street exit. Turn left on
Sprague Street, go to the second traffic light and turn right on Main
Street. Follow Main Street for one-half mile, and turn right into
campus.
From the North
Traveling south on U.S. 52, take the Waughtown Street exit. Turn right
on Waughtown, go through a traffic circle, and the School is in the next
block.
